As a composer, Stephan Boehme primarily finds his artistic home in symphonic music often in combination with the endless sound worlds of synthetic instruments created by himself. The breadth and depth that this form of music offers enables him to tell complex, interdisciplinary and multi-layered stories. In this kind of music, he finds the space to express his inner language, stories and statements. But chamber, solo or electronic music, too serves him to looking for a "symphonic" dimension - an approach that treats this instrumentation with the same depth and complexity that one would expect from a symphony orchestra.
His style is characterized by a desire to tell stories that evoke stories of their own in the listener. For him, every composition begins with an inner vision, a scene or an image that he wants to bring to life musically. He uses the the diversity of his instrumentarium, the power of rhythm, the variety of timbres and the possibilities of sound design to shape these visions and give them expression.
For him, rhythm is more than just a structuring element; it is a pulsating heart that brings the music to life and takes the listener on a journey. Whether in the driving force of a fast movement or in the subtle nuances of a slow section, rhythm shapes the narrative and gives it a dynamic structure.
Tone colors play an equally important role in his compositions. By carefully selecting and combining the instruments of his choice and their specific timbres and possible combinations, he discovers a rich and multi-layered soundscape and color palette. These timbres enable him to convey emotions and moods that words are unable to express. They are the means by which he expresses the depth and complexity of his musical stories.
Finally, sound design opens up additional dimensions in his music. It allows him to create instruments with his onw samples, combine traditional instruments with electronic sounds or live electronics to create new and unexpected soundscapes. This fusion of acoustics and electronics enriches his compositions and gives them a modern, contemporary touch without negating their roots in traditional symphonic music.
His works are therefore not just pure soundscapes, but narratives that are deeply rooted in human experience. They invite the listener to immerse themselves in a world that is both familiar and new, and in which they can rediscover their own stories and emotions.
He humbly sees his role as a composer as building bridges between the past and the present, between different art forms and, above all, between people of all backgrounds. Through his music, he hopes to make a contribution to the cultural landscape that goes beyond mere listening and becomes a deep, emotional experience.
